Writing About A Single Niche On Medium: Is It Worth it?
Writing about a single topic on Medium: Building branding and blogging.
I asked these questions from many writers I have interviewed on my YouTube channel. Most of them agreed that “You should write about any topics of your choice and Medium will show it to the right people”
At first, I didn’t understand this statement but then I realized that Blogging has been changed and it is not that traditional advice to “Start a blog and write about a single niche”
Writing online is quite revolutionary. You write about something and it is always there. It is generating revenue for you in cents or some cases in dollars. If I write every single day, I know for sure that with the right skills, in few years, I will make a good amount of money. That is the power of writing. But, as they say; “Organized writing” What does organized writing means? It means, writing about a topic in such a way as writing a book.
What is Niche blogging?
Niche or Topic is when a blogger writes about a single topic. I love to write about Blogging, writing, and different writing platforms available and how you can grow on those platforms. This is my niche or topic. If I started writing about Engineering, Project Management, and my sexual experiences, then that will come underwriting about multiple topics on Medium.
I am recently started to experiment with publishing content about multiple topics or niches and will share my learnings with the community of this publication. A writer I interviewed once suggested I write anything I know on Medium and you will reach more people.
You can write about anything on Medium:
Yes, you don’t need to be a niche in order to write on Medium. You can write about almost any topic on Medium.
The expectation is a very bad thing. You might write about a topic with your heart and then that post might not do well. And, you stop writing about that topic. The very same thing happened to me when I started writing about Engineering and technical topics.
Most of my followers on Medium are the ones who want to know about blogging and different writing platform or in special cases about Medium. The story about Medium receives more engagement than any other story.
But, this doesn’t mean that you can’t write about other topics on Medium, in fact, Medium can let you write and publish articles about any topic of your interest.
There are writers who are publishing whatever the stuff they know on Medium. This is actually a good thing when you look into the Medium domain authority. The medium could help you reach a wider audience from search and social.
My Experience of 1-year writing about a single topic:
I joined the Medium Partner program In the first month of 2020. I started my Medium publication called “Menlo Blogging” in this publication I only published stories about Blogging, different writing platforms, and video marketing.
The good thing about creating a publication and listing just one kind of stories is that “you can convert the single reader into getting more reads and so a follower of your publication”
There might be very few people on Medium who might be interested to know about Blogging and marketing but still, in my opinion, it is worth it.
You can write about a single topic in your publication and sent stories to other popular or semi-popular Medium publications.
The most important thing is to always properly tagged your stories. Your tags could increase your engagement many folds if you use them the right way. Your followers still play an important part in your Medium journey.
Curation and publications are everything on Medium:
My stories never curated or published in any popular publication. That is the sad part of my Medium story because I would love to be distributed or published in popular publications.
The good part of this sad story is; You still can make $1000+ a month without being curated or published in popular publications.
Writing about a single topic could add a lot of value for you to get distributed. Some publications have this superpower of letting your stories curated or distributed as you published your stories there.
I hope this helps. Thank you for supporting this newsletter.
